IUP Senior Cap & Gown Sessions | Celebrating the Class of 2026 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Graduation season at Indiana University of Pennsylvania is always one of the most exciting times of the year, and over the course of two incredible weeks, I had the opportunity to photograph multiple IUP senior cap and gown sessions with graduates from all different majors and backgrounds. From sunny spring evenings in the Oak Grove to rainy afternoons racing the weather, every session had its own story — and every senior brought their own personality and energy.

This year’s IUP senior portraits truly showcased everything that makes graduation season in Indiana, PA so special.

Senior Photos at IUP: A Campus Full of Perfect Locations

One of the best parts about photographing senior sessions at Indiana University of Pennsylvania is the variety of beautiful locations across campus. Most of these cap and gown sessions took place in the iconic Oak Grove, which always delivers timeless college graduation photos with its towering trees, brick walkways, and classic campus feel.

We also explored some meaningful indoor locations tied directly to each student’s college experience. Several seniors wanted photos inside classrooms and academic buildings where they spent countless hours studying, learning, and building friendships throughout their time at IUP. Those images always feel especially personal because they capture more than graduation — they capture memories.

Of course, no IUP senior session feels complete without stopping by Sutton Hall. Its architecture and recognizable campus backdrop make it one of the most requested spots for graduation photos at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and it never disappoints.

Beautiful Weather… and Some Wild Pennsylvania Rain

The weather over these two weeks gave us a little bit of everything.

Some sessions were absolutely perfect spring evenings with sunshine pouring through the Oak Grove trees and warm golden light that photographers dream about. Those nights felt effortless and full of excitement as seniors celebrated finishing such a huge chapter of their lives.

Other days reminded us that spring weather in Pennsylvania can change fast.

A few sessions happened under cloudy skies with rain threatening the entire time, but honestly, those shoots created some of my favorite moments. One evening, we managed to finish the entire session just before the storm hit — only for the rain to completely pour down while we were walking back to our cars. Somehow, that made the experience even more memorable. Everyone laughed through it, caps and gowns in hand, soaked but happy we pulled it off in time.

That unpredictability is part of what makes outdoor senior photography feel real and authentic.

Every Senior Session Was Unique

One thing I loved about these IUP graduation sessions was how different each senior made the experience. Some graduates wanted classic cap and gown portraits around campus, while others brought champagne, decorated caps, honor cords, or ideas that reflected their personality and college journey.

The mix of guys and girls throughout these sessions also made this two-week stretch especially fun creatively. Every graduate had different goals for their photos, and it was awesome getting to help each of them celebrate such a major accomplishment in a way that felt genuine to them.

Whether we were walking through the Oak Grove at sunset, taking photos on the Sutton Hall steps, or grabbing a few quick portraits inside a classroom before the rain started, every session had moments that felt meaningful.

Why I Love Photographing IUP Seniors

There’s something special about senior sessions because they capture such a huge transition in life. Graduation photos are more than just portraits — they represent years of hard work, late nights, friendships, growth, and everything it took to reach this milestone.

Being trusted to document that for so many IUP seniors over these past two weeks was genuinely awesome.

Seeing the excitement, relief, and confidence these graduates carried into their sessions made every rainy forecast and every sprint back to the parking lot completely worth it.
