I don’t take on family sessions very often, but every time I do, I’m reminded of just how meaningful they are—not just for the families, but for me as a photographer too. There’s something incredibly special about freezing a little moment in time, a stage of life that will never look quite the same again.

Family sessions aren’t always about perfect smiles and posed portraits. In fact, I’ve found that some of the best images come from letting the kids be themselves. Sometimes that means letting them run the show for a while—whether it’s twirling in the grass, skipping rocks, or just being silly. Kids don’t stay little for long, and allowing them to bring their own joy and energy into the session always makes the photos more authentic and fun.

This particular session at Keystone Lake holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been photographing this family since almost the very beginning of my business. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of capturing birthdays, milestones, and seasons of change. Watching them grow up and journey through life together has been one of the greatest joys of my career.

That’s the beautiful thing about family photos—they aren’t just pictures. They’re a way to look back years from now and remember the laughter, the chaos, the love, and the little details that make a family unique.

If you’ve been putting off scheduling your family photos, consider this your gentle nudge. Life moves fast, and those everyday moments are worth preserving. You’ll never regret having them documented—you’ll only wish you had more.

This is beautiful. I am so blessed to have you photograph our family so much over the years. I love them all so much!
