Scarlett just turned four, and what better way to celebrate than with a day full of creativity, imagination, and a whole lot of laughter?

To make her birthday session extra special, we turned it into a painting day. Scarlett showed up ready to create, and the paint started flying (in the best way). Her joy was contagious as she brushed color onto the canvas with the kind of focus only a determined four-year-old artist can bring.
Of course, after a little while, she decided she was done. And in true boss-girl fashion, she delegated the rest of the painting to her dad so she and I could go on a very important mission: a scavenger hunt to find an ant hill—her idea, naturally.

Somewhere between the paint splatters, the bug hunt, and the nonstop giggles, Scarlett officially became my little bestie. She even invited me to her birthday party (cue me melting into a puddle). I’ll never take for granted how special it is to be let into a kid’s world like that.
And just when I thought the session couldn’t get any more iconic, Scarlett introduced me to something she calls the “zombie walk”—a hilariously dramatic way of walking toward the camera. According to her, it should absolutely replace the classic “walk toward me” direction I usually give kids during shoots.
Noted. Forever changed.

Scarlett brought so much heart, humor, and originality to this session. She reminded me that the best photos happen when kids are free to be themselves—and when adults are lucky enough to follow their lead.
Happy 4th, Scarlett. You’re one of a kind.
